Description of Services:
The New Mexico Land Conservancy, a statewide non-profit land trust organization was established in 2002 to help preserve New Mexico's precious land heritage. We work to protect significant wildlife habitat, productive agricultural land and scenic open space throughout New Mexico. Our goal is to conserve 250,000 acres of land directly or in partnership by 2014.
As a professional state-wide land trust organization, quality land conservation work, stewardship and monitoring - in a manner that respects both the land and private property rights - and we defend our conservation easements in perpetuity.
Additionally, we provide accurate and timely information about the techniques and benefits of private land conservation; we educate landowners, public policy makers, and the general public of the value of conserving our precious lands; we promote policy and legislation that furthers voluntary land conservation and enhanced incentives for private landowners; and we provide technical assistance and workshops.
A land trust is a private, non-profit conservation organization that uses conservation easements and other voluntary land protection methods to protect and preserve land for conservation purposes.
