With the Help of Collaborators and Funders, the Following Projects have been Completed or are in Progress (2005-2008):
~ Arizona Cattle Growers and the Forest Service will collaborate on a workshop for Grazing Management in Riparian-Wetland Areas presented by the National Riparian Service Team, June 2008. (Springerville, AZ)
~ Burro Cienaga Ranch and Environmental Defense assisted new ranch owners in the development of an overall management plan for their property. (SE of Silver City, NM)
~ Canelo Hills Coalition and the Forest Service provided funds for a community member to be trained in rangeland monitoring procedures to serve all the ranches that make up the Coalition. (Sonoita, AZ - north of Prescott)
~ Capulin Livestock Association and the Forest Service received a herder grant to support livestock and range management in the Carson National Forest for the 2008 grazing season. (Taos, NM)
~ Chino Valley School Districts and the Forest Service provided funds to help defray transportation costs for Environmental Education Field Trips for the District middle and high schools. (Paulden, AZ - north of Prescott)
~ Clifton and Springerville Ranger Districts along with the Forest Service contributed funds to support a three day Low-stress Livestock Herding Clinic taught by Guy Glosson, organized by the Upper Eagle Creek Watershed Association. (Springerville, AZ)
~ Cowboy Symposium - The Forest Service provided minimal funds along with Quivira Coalition Staff to support the annual 3-day Symposium in 2006 & 2007, specifically for the featured programs related to ranching. (Ruidoso, NM)
~ The Diablo Trust and the Forest Service helped fund a position for a Monitoring Coordinator to implement and interpret a new social/ecological monitoring program. (Southwest of Flagstaff, AZ)
~ Earth Works Institute, The Quivira Coalition and PNM funded the first three in a series of Galisteo Basin Watershed workshops on landscape health, rainwater harvesting and gray water utilization in the Fall of 2006, Spring of 2007 & Spring of 2008. (El Dorado, NM)
~ Harding County/Ute Creek Cattle Company and The Quivira Coalition provided a small grant to help the county develop a plan based on the concept of "Experimental Tourism", inspired by a presentation at the 2006 Quivira Conference. (Bueyeros, NM)
~ Holistic Resource Management of Texas and the Oklahoma Land Stewardship Alliance along with the Dixon Water Foundation hosted a Low Stress Stockmanship workshop with Guy Glosson, October 2007. (Aledo, TX)
~ Hudspeth County, TX and the Dixon Water Foundation hosted a Water Harvesting from Low-Maintenance Ranch Roads Workshop, September 2007. (Hudspeth County, TX)
~ Monticello Box Ranch and Environmental Defense provided funds for bird surveys along Alamosa Creek, conducted by Hawks Aloft, Inc. (Northeast of T or C, NM)
~ New Mexico Land Conservancy and the Forest Service provided funds to support a weekend of seminars on "Saving the Ranch... Maintaining Grant County's Culture and Your Estate", March 2007. (Silver City, NM)
~ New Mexico State Land Office in Roswell and the State Land Office assisted with the funding and promotion for a two day Low-stress Livestock Herding clinic on Jack and Pat Hagelstein's Comanche Hill Ranch. (Roswell, NM)
~ Ogallala Commons and the Dixon Water Foundation provided funds and administrative support for "Playa Lakes Education and Management Project" during the Playa Lakes Festival, May 2007. (Friona, TX)
~ Ojo Encino Chapter of the Navajo Nation and PNM provided funds and administrative support for a two day workshop to develop a long-term grazing plan on 10,000-acres of a 2002 sagebrush treatment. (Cuba, NM)
~ Ojo Encino Chapter of the Navajo Nation and PNM provided funds and administrative support for the Anthill Project in 2007. Utilizing high school students from Rincon Marcus and Ojo Encino Chapter they installed low-tech sediment retention and meander inducing structures at head cuts to slow run off and in streambeds to stabilize gullies and streambeds.
~ Orme Ranch and the Forest Service provided funds for a workshop, evaluation and consultation on future drought and range management. (Mayer, AZ)
~ The Quivira Coaltion and the Forest Service provided funds to produce a Low-stress Livestock Herding Clinic with Guy Glosson for local ranchers and residents to teach hands-on methods for sustainable and economic advantages. (Rowe Mesa, NM)
~ The Forest Service helped fund the Range School at the 2008 Quivira Conference on The Resilient Ranch - Ranching for Profit presented by Dave Pratt. (Albuquerque, NM)
~ The Forest Service helped fund the Range School at the 2007 Quivira Conference on marketing cattle presented by Ann Barnhardt, based on the Bud Williams method. (Albuquerque, NM)
~ The Forest Service helped fund the Range School at the 2006 Quivira Conference. Fred Provenza presented "Cows Have Culture, Too." (Albuquerque, NM)
~ The Forest Service helped fund the SWGLA featured seminar, "Direct Marketing Grassfed Livestock Products" at the 2007 Quivira Conference. (Albuquerque, NM)
~ Taos Mountain Beef and Forest Service funds helped produce an educational workshop on Grass-Fed Beef, for maintaining, producing and marketing grassfed beef. (Taos, NM)
~ Tio Grande Livestock Association and the Forest Service received a herder grant to support livestock and range management in the Carson National Forest for the 2007 grazing season. (Tres Piedras, NM)
~ Upper Eagle Creek Watershed Association and the Forest Service provided support for the development of a watershed plan, which was subsequently employed as part of a successful $800,000 grant application. (Upper Eagle Creak, AZ)
~ A Range Management Seminar for sustainable planning for the ranch portion of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe's Farm and Ranch Enterprise was funded with the help of PNM. (NW New Mexico, SE Utah & SW Colorado)
~ West Yavapai Conservation Education and the Forest Service provided funding and support for 'Rangelands for the Future, Holistic Management in Practice', March 2008. (Chino Valley, AZ)
~ A Holistic Management Class was presented by Kirk Gadzia with the help of Forest Service funds to the Yavapai County, AZ area ranchers in the Verde Ranger District, March 2007. (Orme, AZ)
